Born in Kyoto, Japan, I am an artist with a focus on fiber, painting, and sculpture. I sew plush dolls using the same nami nui (波縫, or wave stitch) used by the women of my mother’s family for generations. With this continuous, one-steady-direction stitch, I explore the role of family traditions, inherited legacies, and cultural artifacts within a history altered by immigration, war, and loss.
